Oscar Piastri claims his fourth victory of the season at The Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix
MIAMI, FLORIDA – McLaren dominated the Miami Grand Prix with another 1-2 finish for Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, while George Russell took P3. Norris won the Sprint Race, followed by Piastri and Lewis Hamilton.
F1 Academy
went racing for their Round 2 but was cut short due to weather conditions. F1 Academy For Round 2 of the F1 Academy season, eighteen drivers, including Wild Card driver Ava Dobson, took to the track in Miami. Heavy rain alongside ongoing traffic issues caused conflicts for drivers, with many only able to set one lap. In the end, Chloe Chambers f inished on pole with Alisha Palmowski in P2 and Doriane Pin in P3.
In the reverse grid Race 1, Mercedes driver Pin took the victory with Red Bull Racing’s Palmowski following in P2 and Red Bull Ford’s driver Chambers finishing P3.
Due to adverse weather conditions, Race 2 in Miami has been postponed to a later date. The next round of the F1 Academy season will join Formula 1 in Montreal, Canada from June 14th-15th.
Formula 1
Like F1 Academy, rainy weather conditions caused much disruption and delay to the F1 sessions. Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli took his first pole position during Sprint Qualifying, the youngest driver to do so in F1 history. Antonelli, unfortunately, did not hold on to this position in the Sprint as Norris claimed the victory, with teammate Piastri f inishing P2 and Hamilton in the Ferrari in P3.
In Sunday’s race, Max Verstappen started from pole alongside Norris. However, an early battle saw Norris drop five places, promoting Antonelli to second. Piastri quickly utilised McLaren’s pace to overtake Antonelli and Verstappen by Lap 14. Norris recovered positions ending P2 thanks to his strong race pace.
George Russell capitalised on safety cars and solid performance to secure the final podium spot. A tense team radio exchange involving Hamilton, Ferrari team and Charles Leclerc marked a dramatic moment, with Leclerc and Hamilton finishing P7 and P8, behind Verstappen (P4), Antonelli (P5) and Williams driver Alex Albon (P6).
Oscar Piastri now leads the drivers’ standings by 16 points over teammate Lando Norris, with Max Verstappen a further 16 points behind.
