MONTREAL, CANADA – George Russell takes home Mercedes’ first victory of the season, a race that ended dramatically after a collision between McLaren teammates Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris that saw the latter crash out. Formula 1 Academy also joined for the weekend, marking the championship’s first time racing in Canada.

Academy drivers took to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve to mark the fourth round of the championship. After Race 2 in Miami was postponed last month, the starting grid for Race 1 was determined by the original Race 2 lineup. Mercedes’ Doriane Pin delivered her third win in six races, now leading the Drivers’ Standings. McLaren’s Ella Lloyd turned her P7 start into a P2 finish while Kick Sauber’s Emma Felbermayr finished P3, though was disqualified due to breaching the car’s minimum weight. Alpine-supported Nina Gademan inherited the position, her first F1 Academy podium.

In Race 2, Felbermayr avenged her Race 1 disqualification with a maiden victory in a dramatic final lap sprint to the chequered flag. Though Nina Gademan led most of the race, a late Safety Car left her open for attack – leaving Felbermayr and Lloyd delivering a 1-2 finish for Rodin Motorsport. In the end, Gademan crossed the line in third.

After a difficult weekend, Red Bull Ford’s Chloe Chambers took the Race 3 victory, leading Lloyd, who scored her third consecutive second-place finish, and Pin finishing in third. Chambers navigated a chaotic race from pole to podium, with two Safety Car restarts and continuous pressure from the McLaren driver.

George Russell converted pole position into victory at the Canadian Grand Prix, leading Red Bull driver Max Verstappen and Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli, his first Formula 1 podium. Though McLaren’s Oscar Piastri continuously fought Antonelli for P3, he faced pressure from teammate Lando Norris behind. In the final three laps, tensions boiled over as the pair battled wheel-to-wheel.

The clash came to a head when Norris slammed into the rear of Piastri’s car, ending Norris’s race prematurely. In the end, Piastri claimed fourth, followed by Ferrari teammates Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso claimed six points in seventh while Nico Hulkenberg finished eighth for Kick Sauber, his second-best finish of the season. Haas driver Esteban Ocon scored two points in ninth with Williams driver Carlos Sainz rounding off the top ten.

Formula 1 will race again alongside Formula 2 and Formula 3 in the Austrian Grand Prix from 28th-29th of June.
