Christian Rasmussen claimed his first IndyCar win in dramatic fashion at the Milwaukee Mile. With fresh tires late in the race, he surged past five rivals, including Alex Palou, to seize the lead and bring home Ed Carpenter Racing’s first victory since 2021.

Starting from pole, Palou dominated the opening stages, controlling the pace and leading the most laps. However, the Spanish driver’s decision to stay out left him exposed to Rasmussen on fresher tires. Scott McLaughlin was in a similar position, settling for third after being unable to match Rasmussen’s late-race speed.

Tire strategy proved to be decisive throughout the race. Frequent pit stops, roughly every 50 laps, were necessary, with anyone stretching a stint falling quickly behind. David Malukas, who looked set for a podium, lost critical time to a stuck wheel nut, dropping him out of contention.

Throughout the race, there were multiple incidents, including early mechanical failures for Nolan Siegel and Graham Rahal, Will Power’s crash after contact, and Callum Ilott’s engine failure. Brief rain on lap 208 triggered a caution, creating the exact window Rasmussen needed for fresh tires and his winning charge.

In the end, the rookie crossed the finish in an astounding victory for the driver and his team, Ed Carpenter Racing.

Only one more race remains to finish the 2025 championship season at the Grand Prix of Nashville on August 31st.
